Citrus Jam Recipes Without Sugar

Homemade citrus jam is a great way to enjoy the goodness of these fruits. However, jams tend to contain too much sugar. That is why, you will also get a tasty and healthy jam if, instead of sugar, you add honey or some other sweetener.

Reducing the sugar in our diet is not always easy, but it is healthier. A good example would be a delicious citrus jam that doesn’t need to contain sugar to taste great.

The benefits of citrus fruits are widely known. We are all aware of the good that a good orange juice, lemon juice, a few tasty mandarins… can get us.

On the other hand, citrus fruits belong to the genus Citrus , and its fruits are characterized by their acidity. Rich in essential oils, they also have other health benefits.

Citrus jam low in sugar

What better way to start the day off right than with a good breakfast? If, in addition, it includes citrus, that’s even better. A great way to incorporate them is to make a delicious citrus jam.

Nevertheless,  we all know that jams usually contain too much sugar. We therefore offer you a low-sugar recipe so that your breakfast is healthier.

Just replace the sugar with a healthy sweetener, or better yet, bee honey. Thus, not only will you reduce the consumption of refined sugars, but you will also enjoy the benefits of honey and stevia. Take note !

Recipe 1: citrus jam with honey

A jar of orange citrus jam

Ingredients

  • 2 large oranges
  • 3 or 4 mandarins
  • 200 ml of water
  • 400 grams of honey
  • Cinnamon stick

Preparation

  • First of all, be sure to wash the fruit well.
  • Next, peel the mandarins and oranges and set aside the skin of the oranges.
  • Then cut the fruit into small pieces.
  • In a saucepan, place the oranges and tangerines with the orange peel and their juice, and finally the water. Boil everything for about an hour.
  • Then remove the orange peels and mix the fruits until you get a homogeneous texture without lumps.
  • Then  put the mixture back on the heat and add the honey and cinnamon. This should continue to boil over low heat for about 15 minutes. Never stop stirring.
  • Finally, let cool. Only when the jam is cold will you know if it is thick enough. In other words, if it has the right thickness.
  • Store the jam in glass jars and allow it to cool. Once the jar is open, keep it in the fridge.

Recipe 2: citrus jam with stevia

 

Ingredients

  • 1 kilo of oranges
  • The juice of a lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of stevia
  • Cinnamon stick

Preparation

  • First,  wash the oranges properly and cut them into small pieces , taking care to remove the seeds. Reserve the skin.
  • Then squeeze the oranges and then boil the juice for about 40 minutes over low heat.
  • Meanwhile, squeeze the lemon and mix its juice with the stevia and orange peels.
  • Then add this lemon mixture to the pan with the orange juice and cook for 10 minutes more.
  • Then turn off the heat and mix everything using a blender  (except the orange peels).
  • Pour the jam into glass jars.
  • When cooled, the citrus stevia jam is ready to eat.
